Educational use
Disclaimer & Terms of Use

For education and discussion only
Field Notes shares construction-planning concepts through articles, games, models, simulations, research studies, and downloadable worksheets and reports. These materials use simplified assumptions and may contain errors or omit conditions that are critical to real projects. They are not intended for direct implementation.
No project-specific professional advice or approval
Nothing on this site or in its downloads constitutes engineering advice, an approved erection or lift plan, a safety assessment, or a recommendation for a specific project. Accessing the materials does not create an engineering, consulting, or other professional-services relationship with Andrew Windisch.
Do not use these materials or their outputs to authorize work, establish equipment capacity, determine structural or ground stability, or make bidding, purchasing, scheduling, or other financial commitments.
Real projects require independent evaluation
Real projects require independent, project-specific evaluation by appropriately qualified professionals, including licensed engineers where required, using current manufacturer documentation, applicable requirements, and verified site conditions. The site's examples do not replace that work.
Crane and erection exercises may omit equipment configuration, load-chart limitations and deductions, rigging, load sharing, wind, ground and subsurface conditions, mat design, temporary stability, connections, lift paths, clearances, and other essential checks. A successful result means only that the displayed exercise criteria were met. It does not establish that an operation is safe, feasible, compliant, or approved.
Worksheet, cost, schedule, and productivity limitations
Sample quantities, rates, crew sizes, costs, durations, earned-value calculations, and schedules illustrate relationships. They are not estimates, quotations, industry benchmarks, or promises of actual performance. Changing inputs does not validate the formulas, assumptions, completeness, or suitability of a model for your project. Do not use a worksheet or report as the basis for a bid, budget, procurement commitment, contract, or field operation.
Research and AI-assisted material
Historical reconstructions, diagrams, and AI-assisted material are educational interpretations. Distinguish documented facts from modeled assumptions and consult original sources. A visual reconstruction is not an as-built record, forensic conclusion, or authoritative account of an incident.
No warranties; limitations of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the materials are provided “as is” and “as available,” without express or implied warranties, including warranties of accuracy, completeness, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or noninfringement. No representation or guarantee is made regarding safety, compliance, cost, productivity, schedule, or other outcomes.
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Andrew Windisch disclaims liability for losses or damages arising from access to, use of, or reliance on these materials, including errors, omissions, lost profits, project delays, and additional costs. Nothing in this notice excludes liability or limits rights that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited. The effect of these provisions depends on applicable law and the circumstances.
Independent educational project
Field Notes is an independent educational project. Its content does not represent or imply approval by the author's employer, clients, equipment manufacturers, or referenced organizations. Mentioning a product or linking to a source does not constitute endorsement or certification.
Sharing and adapting examples
You may share and adapt Field Notes' original examples for education and discussion. Retain attribution to Andrew Windisch, a link to Field Notes, and the educational-use notices in copies, worksheets, screenshots, reports, and adaptations. Clearly identify modifications and their author. Third-party materials remain subject to their respective owners' rights. Permission to share an example is not permission to treat it as a project-ready design or plan.
Accessibility
Field Notes is intended to be accessible and usable by as many people as reasonably possible. The site is developed with consideration for readable content, responsive layouts, keyboard navigation, sufficient visual contrast, and avoiding reliance on color alone to communicate information.
Some interactive diagrams, 3D models, simulations, and experimental tools may present accessibility limitations. These features are continually being developed and improved.
If you experience difficulty accessing any content or functionality on this site, please contact Andrew Windisch so the issue can be reviewed and, where reasonably possible, addressed.
